The traditional black, white, and red pattern known as Haymarket check or the "Burberry classic check" was first used as a lining for the Burberry trenchcoat in 1924. Till now, this check was still used in various products such as umbrellas, scarves, and luggage.
But what is the secret behind this “golden” classic check?
According to the check above, there are four main colors, which are black, white, red and beige.

(*there may be slight colour differences according to the monitor)
The value of the colours were lightened and they seem to be semi-transparent, “more colors” appeared when those stripes crossover. Actually it is a kind of “tint” (e.g. when red and white intersect) and “shade" of a hue. (e.g. when red and black intersect) since black and white are main roles in the check.
Different combinations are made by adding other hues:
such as blue, pink, grey etc.
Through these pictures, it is known that black and white are used in all the patterns. That is why I believe this pattern belongs to "Achromatic".
Apart from the black and white, other used colors do not make a big contrast. It is in medium-chroma since there is no color in its home value(the brightest). Even the red(usually being thought as the sharp colour), it has been shaded and subdued. Besides, analogous(e.g red & beige) or monochromatic(e.g light blue & dark blue) colour combination is used.People will think that it is very soft and harmonic. And it matches the theory of "Analogous colour combination".
After the analyzing, it seems like it is very easy to make some "burberry-alike" stuff.Even so, we cannot make big profit for sure.
We all know it is not just about the colour.
It is all about the brand, isn't it?
